Schools Out...for the Summer

Well, it's officially over. I'm relieved. I'm anxious. I'm sad. I'm disappointed. I feel like I did when I graduated from college. So many emotions. How am I going to make it through the summer?

Yesterday was the Spring Fling. This is a picture of Katie climbing out of one of the inflatables. It was an awesome day. The top picture is of Mary on the climbing wall at Spring Fling. The girls both had a great time -- and Bill and I were both able to be there.
My brain is racing...and the girls are all over the place...so I'll have to write more when I have time. If anyone has any good ideas for cheap entertainment of a 5 year old with autism and a 7 year old who is extremely social :)...let me know.

My three love movies. They can watch the same ones two or three time in one day.

Hey Jill, check out this website:
http://www.timberdoodleautismcenter.com/
maybe they would have some ideas. They have a blog about a working with autism kids. They are a homeschooling family. We worked with a little girl (8 years old, I think) with autism in my church in Utah. I found some good stuff at this website. Also, we used the magformers that I just blogged about with her. It kept her occupied for quite awhile. Not cheap, but may be worth it for you.

Fred -- Movies are a great option and Katie loves them...especially animated ones. I need to invest in a few new ones. You can only watch Finding Nemo so many times :)

I saw those magformers on your blog..I've never seen those here before, I guess I need to look for some. (Maybe toys'r us???) I'll check out the website, too! Thanks :)

We are doing a lot of swimming (which it sounds like you have that one taken care of), movies, and Will is going to a summer program every afternoon at LIFE (where he does therapy). I am doing a summer reading program with all three from our local library. They have prizes reading a certain number of books. What about the zoo, or splash pads (do you have those in MI?) My kids love those and it keeps them cool. Does your city offer any recreational programs? We are lucky that Chandler has a great Parks and Rec. department. They have been really accomodating of Will. I usually send someone to help him as an aide or I go myself but he has loved all of the classes he has taken (art, computer, swimming, etc).
Have a fun summer!

You will probably have to buy them online unless you have a teacher's store or a specialty game/toy store. They aren't in any chain stores that I know of.
